Designed according to the 1938 Irvin Airchute Co. pattern, the British Royal Air Force RAF Sheepskin Bomber B3 Leather Jacket represents the epitome of English heroism during WWII. Worn over London skies by English fighter pilots flying Spitfire and Hurricane fighters in air battles against Nazi forces, this bomber jacket provided the warmth and freedom of movement needed during combat. Please note that the shearling is tanned to “antique” as you wear it, giving “highs and lows” in the color so it looks as if you had this jacket since WWII. Featured: Thick, supple sheepskin • Leather welted seams • Buckle throat latch • Underarm ventilation grommets • Heavy duty front zipper over a wind flap • Side entry hand warmer pockets • Interior pocket • Leather belt at the waist • Heavy duty zipper cuffs • This is a regular fit jacket
With open cockpit fighters in mind, this jacket was originally designed for the Royal Air Force (R.A.F) in 1937 with very thick shearling. Proving too cumbersome for the tight enclosed cockpit of the Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft, these pilots tailored their jackets to shear down the wool to allow more freedom of movement. Cockpit USA has introduced this short sheared sheepskin version, light enough to wear with a sweater or other layering pieces. Please note that the shearling is tanned to “antique” as you wear it, giving “highs and lows” in the color so it looks as if you had this jacket since WWII.
